Can't vagrant ssh, "'ssh' executable not found in any directories in the %path% variable. is an SSH client installed?

i can 'vagrant up' but i get the error shown in the title when i try vagrant ssh in command prompt. i have created the private and public keys in putty but i think they are not the issue. I am using windows 7 and for everything else up until now in the tutorial has been completed. any advice would be helpful at this stage even though i have completed all the prerequisites the setup is really stretching me.
